Apparently, the bailout has been agreed upon, and supposedly doesn't give the money out as a lump sum and will not contain Paulson's provision. I guess the debates can now go on now, and McCain wasn't even needed, much less wanted. According to Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee:
I can't wait to see him try to spin this deal as a result of his efforts. It's ridiculous that he would stoop so low to try to keep himself and his inept running mate from having to appear in a national debate. He wasn't on the committee and would only hinder its progress by appearing. I also believe he admitted that he "doesn't really understand economics."“All of a sudden, now that we’re on the verge of making a deal, John McCain drops himself in to make a deal," Frank said. "I really worry about this politicization of it."
"Frankly, we’re going to have to interrupt a negotiating session tomorrow between the Democrats and Republicans on a bill, where I think we’re getting pretty close, and troop down to the White House for their photo-op, and then come back and get on to it," Frank said.
“We’re trying to rescue the economy, not the McCain campaign,” he added.
